The last few days of Autumn

Things I've enjoyed in the waning weeks of late Summer

๐Ÿ The Terror on Netflix. It recently dropped in late August on netflix. It mixed historical facts of the doomed ships The Terror and The Erubus on the search for a vital sea route between the Atlantic and Pacific mixed with a supernatural creature stalking the crew. It is truly one of the best tv shows I have ever seen. My new favorite is Jared Harris who plays Captain Francis Crozier. It is a great ensemble piece including Harris, Ciarรกn Hinds, Tobias Menzies, Nive Nielsen and Greta Sacchi.

๐Ÿ Snow Fall on youtube. It is a Chinese fantasy drama about a elegant vampire who falls in love with a mistreated blind woman. I'm up to episode four. It is lush and beautifully filmed. For all my fellow romantics, you'll enjoy it.

๐Ÿ I've started back to reading mangas again. I got a delightful trio of mangas that is cat focused.

A Cat From Our World about an forgotten witch who transports a cat from our world to help her. He does it so many ways that she never expected.

Creepy Cat about a woman who moved into her new house and finds herself the owner of a quite remarkable cat. It is a hilarious and sweet story so far. If you love stores with a goth feel , this is your manga.

The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again today also a woman who find a stray kitten that ends up being her best friend. Did I mention that he cleans, walks upright and is about six feet tall? It is funny and makes me wish my cat Jet could cook for me!

So what have all you been enjoying these last weeks of Summer? We are almost down to the wire with a few days left until the Autumn Equinox. I hope your Summer was good to you and that your Autumn will be magical.

What I have been watching

Happy Tuesday, my friends. I have been watching a lot of good television that I like to share with you.

First up, The Girl Before Starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Jessica Plummer, David Oyelwo. This psychological thriller was illuminating and thrilling at the same time. I loved seeing two sistahs in the lead as Jane and Emma, Gugu Mbatha- Raw and Jessica Plummer, with their stories weaving back and forth. Both ladies were amazing in their roles and David Oyelwo as the brilliant yet mysterious Edward kept you wondering on what his intentions was. The house is like another character that is equally as alluring. A must watch.

The Undoing starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant. Nicole and Hugh play the loving couple Grace and Jonathan Fraser with their young son, Henry, played by Noah Jupe. Very soon, their carefully crafted lives become undone. I don't want to give anything away. First, the clothes and the way the series is shot is beautiful. Nicole's green coat which I adored. This is the best I ever saw Hugh Grant! Truly. I can't forget Donald Sutherland, as Grace's father and Noma Dumezweni as Haley Fitzgerald who are both memorable in The Undoing. It is really a great acting ensemble; You will be hooked by the first episode and it is a wild ride.

Obi-Wan Kenobi - Out of all the Star Wars series, this is the one I was most excited for. Ewan McGregor was to me one of the best things about the prequels. Having grown up with the original trilogy, Ewan truly captured Alec Guinness's Obi Wan. On top of that Hayden Christensen coming back as Anakin/Vader that is the cherry on top. The past three episodes were exciting and sad. The Jedi have been broken and beaten. Remaining hidden is the only way of survival, we see a truly defeated Obi-Wan Kenobi. In the third episode, we got an epic rematch with Obi-Wan vs. Vader! If you are a Star Wars fan, this show is a much watch. If you are not, I feel you can enjoy watching the series. We all have suffered defeats and how we make our comeback can be almost as thrilling as how we originally lived.

Let me know what you are watching, I love to hear all

New Loves

Hello, my friends. I hope this post finds all of you well and healthy. I know the holiday season can make people feel sometimes forced cheerfulness or living up to a fantasy version of what the holidays should be. Celebrate the holiday season in what feels authentic to you. Remember giving and receiving are both beautiful ways to enjoy this time of year.

I have a tendency to fall in love with books, TV series, actors, clothes. Once I fall in love, I am hooked.

Some loves last a lifetime: Star Wars and Mark Hamill. Others flit in and out. Long time loves for TV: Supernatural, Criminal Minds, Scandal, Sleepy Hollow. ( I am behind in some episodes, I can spend the Christmas Holiday catching up.) I have new loves to share with you.

1) Harry O (1974  -1976) starring David Janssen is on Warner Archive.
I always liked David Janssen, who is best known for The Fugitive TV series. I remember watching Harry O as a little girl. It is great to see the series as an adult. David Janssen plays Harry with the right amount of gruff, charm and heart. He is a retired cop who works as a private eye. No matter how bad things get, Harry still cares. I'm half way through Season 1.

2) Betty Neels.
Betty was a nurse who became a romance writer. She wrote over 130 books. I got hooked reading Dearest Mary Jane that I got from my local library. Her books are sweet, filled with warmth, great descriptions of homes, family and food.  Seriously, the dishes eaten are mouthwatering. The plots are usually similar. The heroine is plain, plucky and resourceful; or, pretty, plucky and resourceful. The hero is always a big man, Dutch, annoying at times , a doctor and drive a Rolls Royce. The settings are a lot of times set in hospitals. There is only tender kisses exchanged. No hot and heavy scenes. They are great gentle reads.  If you are a Betty Neels fan, let me know in the comments.

Well, my friends I have rambled on enough. Have a great day.  See you right back here in a day or two.

Phryne Fisher Friday

Happy Friday, my fellow dreamers. It's Friday, woo hoo. A perfect day to talk with you all about one of my favorite new shows.

It is the Phryne Fisher Mysteries on Netflix. It's a wonderful mystery series from Australia based on the books of the same name by Kerry Greenwood. Phryne (pronounced Fry-knee, to rhyme with briny) is rich, smart, elegant and witty. Even when she is covered with blood, she still manages to look stylish. The self described Lady Detective is a treat to watch. I haven't read the books, if the series is close to the books then they must be wonderful.

Essie Davis as Phryne is marvelous. I'm currently toward the end of season 1. Hoping Netflix will pick up season 2! She also has a close relationship with married Detective Inspector Jack Robinson played by the awesomely cute Nathan Page. They hint that he is not quite happy at home. This is set in the 1920's, I have no idea whether the two will get together. It's still fun to watch them glow on screen together.

Phryne is aided by the pretty and sweet Dot; along with Constable Collins who works under DI Robinson. There is now a sweet romance brewing between Dot and Constable Collins, as well.

Oh and the clothes!!

I'm loving this whole outfit.

This has to be one of my favorite's of Phryne.

Now, have I enticed you my friends. I do hope you give The Phryne Fisher Mysteries a go. You will adore the show like I have. Have a wonderful Friday.

Downton Abbey

Happy Thursday, everyone.

So, for the past Sundays I have been transfixed
watching Downton Abbey. I found this video on Sunday
night on twitter. I had to share this with all the Downton
Abbey fans out there especially ones who love Maggie
Smith as Lady Grantham. She is a hoot! Those
looks she gives reminds me of my Grandmother.

Enjoy.

Beyond Reality

In between taking care of Jacob, I have been carving out
mommy time. What do I do? Still watching tv and movies.
For my birthday, I treated myself to buy an old favorite
of mine: the TV show Beyond Reality (1991 - 1993)

Beyond Reality starred Shari Belafonte and Carl Marotte
as Dr. Laura Wingate and Professor J.J. Stillman. They
teach Parapsychology at a local university while
investigating paranormal cases that came their way.

They had some really stand out episodes which revolved
around personality reality, possession, reincarnation
and past life. I enjoyed the friendship between
Laura and J.J. that gave the show a warmth to it.
It is one of the few shows of a paranormal/fantasy
theme to have a African American woman as the main female lead.
Which is one of the reasons I loved the show as much as I did.

The first season is on DVD. I'm hoping season two will
be released soon, so I can complete the series. If there
are any other fan of the series, I love to hear from you.
I'm the only person I know who even watched the show. If
you never seen it, I say check it out. It's a good series.

I Like

Happy Thursday. Sharing a few
things that I like:

1) Peace and Plenty: Finding Your Path To
Financial Security by Sarah Ban Breathnach.

My favorite idea: Having Pin Money.
"Keeping a Pin Money account helps you
you acknowledge the little things, the
affordable luxuries that you love."
-Sarah Ban Breathnach.

My Pin Money would be for:
Muffins at Panera cafe.
Crystals.
Beautiful earrings.
Scarves.
Delicious lip glosses and eye shadows.

2) Let's Bring Back: An Encyclopedia of Forgotten
-Yet-Delightful, Chic, Useful, Curious, and
Otherwise Commendable Things from Times Gone
By by Lesley M.M. Blume

My favorite: Parasols.

As much as I love the sun, I adore
having a beautiful White Parasol to
stroll in during Summer and Spring.

3) Scones

I finally found an easy recipe for
scones. I've made two batches so far.
Oh my, it is so good. Thinking about
it now, makes me hunrgy.

4) Armchair Thriller : Set 1

Sean and I picked this up at our
local library. It's is a British
Mystery series from the late 70's.
We've seen two of the four stories,
so far. Really Excellent. The one
with Ian McKellan is unforgettable.

What has recently caught your fancy?
I love to hear all.

Thursday and Chi McBride Love

My favorite day of the week: Thursday is
finding me feeling edgy. I've been working
hard all week and I feel like it's catching
up with me. Being edgy doesn't allow me
to flow properly.

Today I've been watching a slew of shows
I recored: Moment of Luxury, Secret Diary
of a Call Girl. Later on, some Criminal
Minds.

I am in the mood for some Chi McBride
love. Here's a funny scene from Pushing
Daisies with the funny Chi and Kristin
Chenoweth. Their characters Emerson and Olive
were wonderful together. I always wished
they had more episodes with them
as the leads. I love my Pushing Daisies.
On the list for must have DVD sets.

Enjoy.

Bills

While I'm still celebrating myself as an actress, sistah still has to pay bills. Do you ever go to the mail with a ache in your tummy knowing there are bills waiting for you? I do at times. Today is the last day of paying rent. I'll do it later on today. I am thankful that I have an place to call my own, clothes to wear and food in my frig. I say Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for all I do have. Being thankful does ease the money woes.

I love the tv show: Supernatural. This is from three episodes back. They did a clip of my Jensen Ackles (Dean) singing at the end of the show. You may have seen it. I need some Jensen and silliness to get through the day. Enjoy.

Happy Thursday

Happy Thursday everyone. I'm happy because it's my favorite day of the week. It is a sunny and autumny day in New York. I'm about to go out and do errands.I had to write about tonight being the season premiere of one of my favorite shows: Supernatural!! Last season closed with Dean in Hell and Sam determined to find a way to get his big brother out. The season premiere is tonight at 9:00 on CW. I have no idea how they are going to get out of this. However it goes down, The Winchester brothers always do it on the seat of the pants with scares and laughs combined. I have to admit I miss Papa Winchester played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. He was a hottie too. I can't be the only Supernatural fan out there, so if you love Supernatural too let me know.

The Boys are Back

Happy Thursday everyone. I'm excited because two of my favorite paranormal theme shows are back: Supernatural on tonight and Moonlight on Friday.
I love Supernatural because they combine the serious and silly together. It is the relationship between Sam and Dean Winchester (played by Jared Paledecki and Jensen Ackles) that really make the show. The two brothers have real love for each other even with all the craziness that goes around them. Now the big question is Dean going to die and can Sam save him? I have to admit I'm partial to Dean. Me and the fictional character even share the same birthday! So I guess it's only natural he's my fave.
Then over at Moonlight, we have Private eye and dead guy, Mick St. John (played by Alex O'Loughlin). I always had a fondness for vampires. Mick now is temporarily human and may get to spend some of this time with his beloved Beth. Who knows what will happen? I also love his cynical and many centuries old fellow vamp Josef.

So set those VCR, DVD-R for record, if you have plans tonight and tomorrow. These shows are not to be missed.
