Goodbye Miss Maya

Dr. Maya Angelou for so many people, including me, was a living fount of wisdom. I adore this picture of a young and vibrant Maya. Even as she grew older, this Maya lived on through her poetry and books. I can hear Maya , through this picture, reminding me : " The first time people show you who they are, believe them." This is so true!

One of my favorite crative works by Dr. Angelou is the movie Down in The Delta (1998) she directed starring Alfre Woodward and Wesley Snipes. If you have never seen it, see if you can find it. It is a good life affirming movie.

Thank you Maya for all the beauty, poetry, wisdom and love you shared with all of us. You have left us all a great legacy.

St. Dymphna

My adoration of St. Dymphna comes from my mom.

Dymphna story began centuries ago. She was a lovely Irish Princess. Her mother died and her father, The King went mad in his grief. One day, he realized that Dymphna was the exact image of his wife and wanted to marry her. Dymphna distraught went to the local priest for help. The two fled Ireland. Her father hunted them down. When they were caught, he threatned to behead her and the priest. If she married him, he would spare them both. She refused. Her father killed them both on the spot. Where she was buried in Gheel, Belgium, miracles and healings happened. In the 7th century, she was made a Saint.

She is the patron saint of anyone suffering from any mental issues including anxiety, depression. Starting from my late teens, whenever I had a difficult situation to deal with it I wear her medallion. It was and still is comforting.

In recent years, I have learned you can call on her if you have been sexually abused.

There are many prayers attributed to her. For me, I simply talk to her like an old friend. St. Dymphna is kind and gentle. She always comes to my aid when I need her.

I honor St. Dymphna today by sharing her story with all of you.

Blessings to all of you, my friends.

May Full Moon

Blessings to all my fellow dreamers on this Full Moon. It is the watery and deep feeling Scorpio energy that is riding in the air. Paired with the flowering abundance of Spring all around us it a Full Moon packed with creative energy.

All my Scorpio sun and moon sign babies this is your extra special moon.

This came to me last night so clear. I am sharing it with all of you. It is a simple visualization for this Full Moon.

Mirrors are linked to the element of water. Visualize a mirror in front of you.

You can sit or stand. Allow yourself to relax. Let your heart speak for you. What feelings have you buried in the deepest region of your heart? Feel your feelings. When you feel connected to your heart. Look into the mirror. The Mirror is going to reflect those deepest feelings within you. What do you see? Take note of all that is seen in the mirror. Know that it is safe to see this. When you have seen enough, the mirror will simply fade away.

You can act on your feelings or not. What is important to acknowledge your heart's longing. If you do the visualization, let me know how it turned out. For me, it was comforting and healing. Burying your feelings is never good for your spirit in the long run.

Wishing you all a lovely full moon.

If it's a Rainy Day..

Happy Thursday, my friends. It is a deliciously Rainy day here in The Bronx. If you have been reading my blog, you know I love Rainy Days. There is something very dreamy for me about the rain.

I love taking walks in the rain especially when I have no errands to do. It is a day for me to walk and be with the rain. Then there is the beauty of being indoors on a rainy day with a good book, movie and especially sweet treat to eat.

What do you like to do on a Rainy Day?

Here are my top five things to do on a Rainy Day.

1) I love to lay on my bed and watch the gray sky. There is a meditative quality for me. I can let my thoughts go and just be.
2) Read a great book.
3) Watch an old classic movie. Rainy Days make me long for a good Bette Davis movie or one of my favorite romantic movies to watch.
4) Sleep. As a mommy of a little one, I don't get a lot of that. When I can take a nap on a rainy day is like a slice of Heaven for me.
5) Quiet. Rainy Days feel quiet to me. It's as if the noise of the world is muted, you can hear the beauty of Nature rise up.

Wishing you all a wonderful Thursday whether it be Rainy or Sunny.

May The 4th Be With You

Today is May the 4th also known as Star Wars Day. A play on the famous tagline from the Star Wars Movies: May The Force Be With You. If you are a new follower, then let me share that I love Star Wars. Seriously. I do. I have since way back in May 1977 as a kid. I have watched them so much especially the original trilogy that I can practically say all the lines. Yep. My favorite is The Empire Strikes Back.

Before I go on my how I love Luke Skywalker monologue. Let me give props to Carrie Fisher who rocked as Princess Leia. She radiated strength, wit and beauty.

Now, let me get back to my how I love Luke. My adoration for Luke and especially to Mark Hamill knows no bounds. In my own life, Luke became a touchstone when I had my own difficult paths to walk. True story, I did get to meet Mark Hamill way back in the 90's. He was so sweet to me. My heart just melts thinking about that. I still have his autograph on my wall.

Behind the scene shot with Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker from The Empire Strikes Back

Also from Empire..

I was fascinated by the Jedi Knights as a kid and still am. I like to think that I am Jedi in some ways.

I love this picture of James Earl Jones, who voiced Darth Vader, and Mark Hamill. Father and Son together.

Before I go, I can see this is getting to be a long post. There is so much more that I can say about Star Wars. There are other characters that I adore. I may have to do another post on them. I can't forget Billy Dee Williams as the charming and daring Lando Calrissian.

Sending Love to all my fellow Star Wars fans out there. Can't wait for Episode 7!! I am hoping the omission of Billy Dee Williams in episode 7 will be rectified!

Merry May Day

Happy May Day or Beltane. May 1st will always be special to me because about three years ago on that day I had the first stirrings that I was pregnant. My womb was flowering just as Nature was around me. About 10 days later, I got the news officially.

Where I live, the dandelions are popping up. There are these beautiful pale white flowers with touches of blue that are popping up now too. I don't know what their name is. When I see them, I always think of Faeries.

Today is traditionally thought of a time when the layers between the worlds grow thin. You may be out and about with friends and family, meet up with a Faerie without knowing you have. If you find yourself invited to a glorious party today with beautiful people who shine and glow, you may dance with them. Don't drink or eat anything! If you do, you will have to stay in Faerie land much longer than you ever wished to be.

Today, wear colors that remind you of Spring. Tie a ribbon or wear a flower in your hair. Put a bit of sparkly eyeshadow on your face. Make merry wherever you can. If the weather is gloomy where you are, no matter. Put on your favorite outfit. Eat delicious fruit or sweet treat. Light a beautiful candle and dream of Sunny days.

Wishing you all a lovely Merry May Day. Here's a sweet poem for this special day.

Wine Of The Fairies

I am drunk with the honey wine
Of the moon-unfolded eglantine,
Which fairies catch in hyacinth bowls.
The bats, the dormice, and the moles
Sleep in the walls or under the sward
Of the desolate castle yard;
And when ’tis spilt on the summer earth
Or its fumes arise among the dew,
Their jocund dreams are full of mirth,
They gibber their joy in sleep; for few
Of the fairies bear those bowls so new!
