Magical Monday

Happy Monday, my friends. It is almost that time. Jake has been saying Happy Halloween to people for about three weeks. I was very happy to tell him that tomorrow is the day! Are your ready? I actually carved a Pumpkin with Jake. Actually it is a lot easier that I thought it would be. Once you take of the top and clean out all the pulp and seeds, then you can start carving. Save the Pumpkin seeds. You can clean and roast them to eat. I like to use them for added omph for my candles for prosperity.



Can you feel it? With the longer nights and the falling leaves, the opening of the that time when the land between us and our loved ones that have crossed over is felt keenly to me. As much as I dig certain horror movies, it saddens me that the underlying theme of Halloween, Samhain or All Souls Night is buried. It really is a time to remember about our loved ones who have left us; and accept our own mortality. I read on instagram, someone said we are the new ancestors.



There is also magic in the air. For some, tomorrow is considered a New Year. It is a time to wear costumes and perhaps let another part of you out. You can celebrate tonight, tomorrow and on November 1st. The best ritual is to me simple: light a candle, watch a favorite magical movie, write a letter to a beloved lost one. Don't forget to indulge in yummy chocolate or candy.

After seeing Robert Taylor films back to back, I was curious to see if he any good insights on Acting. He sure did. Robert's quotes on Acting totally capture how I was trained as an actor.

I was on a Robert Taylor kick. I just finished watching Magnificent Obsession (1935) with him and Irene Dunne. Then I saw a listing of the movie Camille. I had heard of the movie and never seen. Camille had Robert Taylor, Great Garbo as a courtesan, in beautiful clothes. Garbo isn't one of my favorites, I decided to watch it anyway. Wow, I am happy that I did.

Robert Taylor was gloriously handsome when he was young.

Great Garbo played Marguerite with the right mix of fragility, wistfulness and passion that I was immediately drawn in.



The story is simple.Marguerite and Armand meet at the Opera. She mistakes him for a rich count. Though attracted to him, she has to pay her bills. Sends Armand to get candy, and leaves with her rich count. Armand is fascinated by her. Destiny is kind, the two meet again.



Marguerite ,who has known poverty and riches, finds true love with the handsome and open hearted Armand. Can a Courtesan and a honorable gentleman find true happiness in Paris? The question of love is woven in the movie. Can you love someone that "others" find unsuitable for you? Can love overcome prejudice and station?


Well, you have to watch Camille to find out. I was rooting for Marguerite and Armand to win. Greta Garbo and Robert Taylor are entrancing on screen together.If you never seen this movie,you are in for a treat. Camille will pull at your heart strings. Be prepared. Still, it is a beautiful and heartfelt movie. Of course,here is the trailer.


P.S. Moulin Rogue heavily borrows from Camille. I only realized this after the movie ended.

Magnificently Glow on this Full Moon

It's the Harvest Moon tonight, my friends. This full moon lands in the fiery sign of Aries.

This is the special moon for the Moon and sun sign Aries. I happen to be an Aries Moon child. Oh yes, when I am revved up I can sail on my passion for weeks! Those few times I really get mad, well you better get out of my way.

How can Aries energy help us now. With hurricanes, shootings, protests, an self-involved president, things are intense! You still have to take care of yourself. Get your center and find the calm in the storms around you.

If Aries energy was personified for me,it would be the beautiful Tamara Dobson who played Cleopatra Jones.



Tamara would tell you: It is time to get yourself in alignment. Focus on you. Take control where you can, let the rest go. Know you always have to be rooting for you. Let that inner fire out and burn up things that need to go!
