Dreamy Thursday: Libraries

Happy Dreamy Thursday, everyone.
Dreamy Thursday will be a bi-monthly
feature on the blog moving forward.
Makes it a lot easier for me and can
have really good juicy Dreamy Thursdays.

Today's Dreamy Thursday is all about one
of my favorite dreamy places ever: Libraries.

I love libraries!! I was an early reader
and my passion for books has been constant
all my life. All through school, the library was one
of my favorite places to be.

Librarians are the coolest people. They
let you know what new books or programs
are coming in; sometimes even recommend you for things.
In 4th grade, I was the Mistress of Ceremony for my
graduating class. It was a great honor and I loved it.
How did I get it? I was recommended by the School
Librarian to the Principal.

My favorite Library in all my years of schooling
was at my alma mater, Howard University.
Founders Library is a beautiful old building. With their
wide windows that let in light. Mahogany chairs, long tables
fireplaces scattered in certain rooms. Studying there was
a pleasure for me.

Libraries are like stepping into another world.
I love the smell of old books and how they
radiate with knowledge. Even with ipads and kindles,
I don't think Libraries will ever go away.
There will always be a need.

If you ever get the chance to come to NYC, you have
to go to what I call The Big Library on 42nd street.
This year this grand building is celebrating it's
Centennial. With the imposing Lions that guard
the library nicknamed Patience and Fortitude.
The Library is a beautiful old building.
It is elegant with beautiful pictures and centuries
of writings ride the air in the hallways. My favorite part
of the Library is the Rose Reading room. This picture from NYPL.com shows
only half of how beautiful it is in person.
The reading room hums with wisdom, writing and
magic. When I'm there, I feel I can write masterpieces
in all that loveliness

Of course, my local Library is one of my hangouts.
I'm there at least once a week. Picking up books and
movies or looking for new ones. I love to hear what your
favorite Libraries are. Share all in the comments.
If you haven't been to your local Library in a while,
go over and see what great things are going on there.

If you enjoy Dreamy Thursday here,
you can be a Guest Blogger at Swan of Dreamers
talking about what makes you feel Dreamy.

a very Dreamy Thursday.

Cairo Time

Happy Thursday, everyone. Dreamy Thursday will
be now featured twice a month. It will be
back next week.

I had to come on and gush about Cairo Time (2009)
which I got from the library this week. I had read a
review about it last summer in New York Times.
I had wanted to see it on the big screen but missed
it.

My sweetie pie says I have a penchant for sad romances.
Maybe, I do. I guess it's something about the longing
that appeals to my romantic nature.

Juliette (Patricia Clarkson) comes to Cairo to
meet up with her husband, Mark who works for
the UN. When she arrives, his friend and former
colleague Tareq (Alexander Siddig) meets her
at the airport to tell her Mark is going to be
delayed. There is some unrest in Gaza and Mark
can't leave. Juliette is left alone in Cairo.
Waiting to get calls from Mark to find out when
he will come back. she discovers the city and
herself in a deeper way. Tareq becomes her friend and
guide in Cairo.Over time the relationship develops
into something more....

Cairo Time is directed and written by Ruba Nadda.
It is a beautifully written and visually stunning
film. Patricia Clarkson and Alexander Siddig are superb.
I love all the undercurrent and subtleness in the acting.
And as side note, Alexander is quite sexy in this.

Cairo Time gets a big Yes from me. Go and rent it.
Of course, here is the trailer for you.

Flowering Moon

It's that time again. When Lady Luna shines
strong and bright tonight. The Full Moon name
for this May Moon that I like best is the
Flowering Moon. Or if you prefer the Flower
Moon.

We are in the fullness of Spring and everything
is flowering around us. How about you? Look
at your life and see what is flowering beautifully
these days.

This Full Moon is under the sign of Scorpio. All
my watery Scorpio babies in the sun and moon in
Scorpio, this is your Moon!

The rest of us can enjoy this moon too.
Here are some suggestions:

* Pick a mirror in your house that you dedicate
to yourself. Clean it. Decorate if you wish.
Every time you feel a negative thought
coming, go to the mirror and say uplifting words
to yourself.

* Do you have a secret self that you wish to be more
like? Start tonight to bring that self out from time to
time in your real life. Dress, read, talk or listen
to music that your secret self would. It is powerful and
healing act for you to do. Being all who we are makes us
shine even brighter.

* Make a list of all your guilts, faults, issues.
Write it all out. No one will see it but you.
Then burn them in a safe place. As you watch them
burn, imagine them being cleared away. Flush
what is left of the list down the bathroom.
Then start tomorrow fresh.

As always, these are suggestions. You do whatever
you feel guided to on this Full Moon. Remember,
if you can't do it tonight, the energy of the Full
Moon lasts another night.

Wishing you all a magical Flowering Moon.

Happy Friday The 13th

Happy Friday the 13th everyone. If your with
blogger, you know things have been wonky for
two days. The post I had on Wednesday is gone.
Will it come back or not? I'll see.

I love Friday the 13th. To me it's a special day.
It is full of hidden magic, luck and fun.
So don't listen to all the old stories about
it being a bad day.

Here's Three things to do on Friday the 13th:

1) Adopt a Black cat today. Black cats have the lowest
rate of adoption and highest rate of being put
to asleep. Why? Because of all the dumb superstitions
about Black cats.

2) Watch cool retro thrillers tonight. (No slasher
films, unless you are so into it.)
Here are a few recommendations:
Then There Were None (1945)
Stage Fright (1950)
Arsenic and Old Lace (1944)
Witness for the Prosecution (1957)
The Uninvited (1944)

3) This comes from my friend R. He recommends
writing down 13 wishes today. I did
my 13 wishes and now the fun begins
to watch which ones come true.

I hope these Three tips will make Friday
the 13th more fun and friendly for you.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
