Bloom

It was November, my best bud, Neo, and I were walking to his job. He is not only an actor but a fitness trainer. He was saying how he wanted to keep up his Gladiator regiment. ( He went to a Halloween party dressed up like a Gladiator.) I said I don't want to look like a Gladiator, but I like to get into shape. Then he gave me his Neo stare ,I know so well, then quietly said Why don't you. I said you are right.

The next day I asked him for exercises to do. He gave me a 30 minute workout to do.

When I had to pick a word for the year 2016. Bloom came to my mind. Fast forward to July 2016. I've incorporated Neo's exercises, along with walking, working out to a Belly Dance DVDs and , most recently, Island Girl Hula DVD.

I'm not at my target weight. I released enough that I am now leaner, stronger and vibrant. I've also got back into wearing makeup more which I've always love to do.

Then on July 16, I decided to do something that had been haunting my soul. Since I gave birth to Jacob, I have been wanting to cut off my hair. Every couple of months the urge would come over me.

Finally, I felt like yes. I felt like I needed a new push for releasing weight. I felt like cutting my hair aka as the big chop would help me. I told Sean, let's do this. As he buzzed my hair off, I could feel the energy of all the deaths of family and friends, the break up of friendships, the dealing of going from maiden to mother and all the challenges I held inside fall away.

I felt free. I felt ten years younger.

Bloom. I have bloomed a lot this year. There is still a lot more to 2016 to go. I am embracing this new Bloom for myself.

I'm not suggesting you cut off your hair. Where in your life do you feel stagnant or want to change? I feel stronger, look better and feel ready to take on life in a big way. Sometimes we need to do our own change, before Life makes changes for us.

What would you like to change? How would you like to be or look like when 2017 comes in?

You have The Power!

It is a turbulent time in America. We have mass shootings, police brutality and police, themselves, being killed. We see all this in graphic videos, blared on the news and shouted on social media.

The isms of the world can feel overwhelming, suffocating and fearful. Racism, Sexism, Homophobia, Ageism, Classism. We are not powerless! You are not powerless! I am not powerless!

Here are ways to reclaim your power back:

* Limit your social media. If you see, read or hear things that upset you, just log off. If you wish to engage with people, that is fine. If you don't, that's fine too.

* Vote! Not only in the presidental, also, your local elections. Write, call or email your elected officials.

* Express your feelings. Talk with your friends and family. Last week I met up with my friend, Neo. He hadn't been caught up with the news. We watched the news together and was able talk about how we felt deeply. It was healing for both of us.

* Express your feelings creatively in blog posts , like I am, vlogs, drawings, paintings, quilting, singing, writing etc.

* Volunteer for organizations that align with your values. Create your own movement or organization to better and uplift people.

* Watch television and movies that makes you feel hopeful and healed. Have a good book to dive into.

* Make your home and work life a prejudice free zone. Let people know you won't tolerate their prejudices in your presence. That include jokes, quips or stories.

* Accept how you feel. Our feelings about Racism, Sexism, The Police, Guns is highly influenced by our experiences. Know you may not fully understand people who think opposite of you. We can ,like I always say, respectfully disagree.

* Run for political office, if you feel called too.

* Pray, meditate, eat nourishing food and exercise.

* Search out good news about people and events that show the best in people.

These are a few ways to reclaim your power. Stay safe and sane. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend. I'll be right back here on Monday.

Dream Thought #82: Making over our world

A country is only as good… only as strong as the people who make it up and the country turns into what the people want it to become… I don’t believe any longer that we can afford to say that it is entirely out of our hands. We made the world we’re living in and we have to make it over.

Sweet July

Colored scents that fill the air as drowsy insects hum around in the meadow is the place of secret magic where nature alone renews itself."
- Kate Bergquist

Woo hoo. It's July. Wishing all the Canadians out there, Happy Canada Day. I was in Canada for Canada Day many years ago. It was a beautiful time for me. My memories of Ottawa warms my heart to this day.

This month, I am going to catch up with two ladies. I have to let go of a few of favorite TV shows because I don't have the time to watch them all. I do my best to avoid social media when certain shows air then catch up with them when the season is done.

It's been a long time since I caught up with Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and her family aka Empire. I watched up to episode 2 of season 2. I'm ready to have fun with the fierce and fabulous Cookie Lyon.

Another lady who is fierce and fabulous in her own way, Cassie Nightingale is back.

I found out two weeks ago The Good Witch series is on Netflix. I've watched three episodes so far. I'm going to spend time with Cassie (Catherine Bell) and her family. Though I do miss Chris Pine, who was in the four original movie, as Jake, her friend and eventual husband .

What series are you going to be catching up with this Summer? I love to hear all in the comments.
