As soon as sunset falls, I love to
watch an old movie at least three times
a week if I can.
I spent a wonderful Wednesday evening
with Cary Grant. I saw again, after
too many years absence, Arsenic and Old Lace (1944).
I don't know the last time that I laughed
this hard. It is madcap zaniness. Cary Grant
is pure magic in it. To be fair this is
a wonderful ensemble piece including Jospehine Hull
and Jean Adair reprising their Broadway roles
as sweetly deadly Aunt Abby and Aunt Martha.
Here is the story:
Mortimer Brewster, drama critic/ writer (Cary Grant)
has married Elaine (Priscilla Lane) despite writting
books against marriage. Elaine and him go home to
Brooklyn, to tell their families the good news.
While sharing his marriage news with Aunt Abby and Martha,
he finds a body in the window seat! When he tells his
Aunts about the body, they sweetly respond they know
all about it. They gave the gentleman some of their
special wine to help this poor lonely old man
out of his misery!
Oh and it gets better. Of course, I can't tell
you the rest. It is funny from start to finish.
This is a perfect movie to watch with your family on
a Summer Evening.
As always, I have the trailer for you. Enjoy.

Wow. I can't believe this is my 200th post. I use to worry when I first started Swanofdreamers I would run out of things to talk about!...

I LOVE Cary Grant! His comedic facial expressions are priceless. And he's dreamy to boot. :) I watched Arsenic & Old Lace a few months ago with my kids. (I hadn't seen it since Jr. High.) My kids got a kick out of it and still refer back to some of the funny scenes from time to time. :)
I can't remember the last time I watched an old movie. I need to do that. Maybe this one. :)
Hope you're doing good sweets!
