Pride and Happiness

Since I was little, my mom taught me to be proud of being Black. Though some will judge me by the color of my skin, that I shouldn't allow it to stop me from achieving my dreams. People question where Barack got his confidence from. I like to think when he was little boy perhaps his mother, though she was white, taught him to be proud of being Black too. That he could achieve anything he put his mind to.

Today, the world watched as America celebrates our first African American President. I am proud of this day and how far my country has come. I feel President Obama shows how faith in yourself can propel you lightyears ahead of what the world thinks you can do.

"Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions — who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans. Their memories are short. For they have forgotten what this country has already done; what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to common purpose, and necessity to courage."- President Barack Obama.

Let this wonderful day move us forward as a people, as a nation and sisters and brothers of the world. Whatever your dream of your life, do it. Don't listen to the cynics or this can't be done people of the world. We need more people of courage, hope, determination, strength and love to step up. Your life may be the one to inspire hundreds, thousands or millions of people. You won't know that unless you live your life the way you are meant to do. Use the gifts bestowed upon you by your creator for the good of yourself, your family and your world.

Sweet dreams to you all.

In his book Dreams of my Father he talks a lot about where his pride in self came from, and the tremendous influence his mother had on him, as well as his grandparents.
I am so proud of our country for making this wise choice, and I am so thrilled that we have this wonderful charismatic leader to guide us forward. . . . he truly is a hero.
Michelle seems pretty awesome, too!
and those kids? adorable.

So true Shell! You always inspire me and make me feel more determined to do just what you advise. This new era for America and the world is so so exciting and can give everyone new hope.It was so lovely to watch all the events yesterday and I loved the way his family were included in the speeches. So touching.

Also-on a different topic-can't wait to see your paper dolls-hope you get your joiny bits soon!

her ears perk up - "Paper dolls?" another synchronicity! I used to draw paper dolls (say used to, cause I haven't in years. but now I have grandkids!) Thanks for stopping by the vale - isn't that a fun book!

I keep thinking 'is it real? Is he really president now??" so exciting - & I'm so grateful that we're able to be part of this, & live our dreams as well!
My very blond daughter is an Aquarius, & SO wants things to be fair, people not to be judged by what they look like, or where they're from, or who their parents were - we're glad to be part of this shift.
as Em says, his whole family is admirable -
Blessings, & I want to see those paper dolls!

A beautiful post, Shell.
The day was overwhelmingly inspiring. I felt like I was a teenager again with all the idealism, hope and dreams for the future I haven't felt for a while. President Obama is truly a charismatic man and I'm absolutely thrilled that he is our country's leader.
Now, what's this about paper dolls?.... I'll have to go back and read about them!

I am so proud too! I keep getting misty eyed this week. I am so happy that my bright young son is coming of age and awareness of politics at this time. President Obama is a wonderful example of a true leader.
