I hate straight singing. I have to change a tune to my own way of doing it. That's all I know. - Billie Holiday.

Shell, you know I LOVE Lady Day!
This Re-Minds me of a singer I met when I was younger. He was singing along to Gloria Estefan's "Conga," and he was doing something with his voice that I had never heard on the recording of the song at all.
I remember asking him, how he does that, and he told me that he just feels it and does what he feels. Or, rather, sings what he feels.
I also remember asking him how I could learn how to do that, and I must admit, I do not recall what his answer was.
Nonetheless, over the years, I have felt something in the music, and then sang what I felt. Go figure.
