Back to Business
Happy Monday, everyone. Thanks for the love on
the new banner. I appreciate it.
This year I started taking seriously the idea
of creating my own jobs from my natural talents.
If I can't find a job, then I create my own job.
We all have gifts that make us unique.
With 2010, weeks away. I encourage you to start
today. Yes, today. Why wait for January 1st.
Make a list of a what you really love to do.
That your passionate about. No kinda like,
lukewarm jobs, please!
As I have gained more confidence, I have
attracted more jobs my way in my acting,
teaching acting and tarot card reading.
Which has retaught me a lot of what
I think reflects in my world.
This is what I have learned this year.
1) Don't fake what you can do. Tell people
exactly what you can do and what you don't
do. Cuts down on confusion later on.
2) If your starting out, price your
services at what you feel comfortable at.
When your ready to up your rates,
practice saying your rate out loud until
you can do it without blinking.
(This does work, trust me.)
3) If you get a vibe that a prospective
client or project is flaky, trust your
feelings. Get out gracefully.
4)Keep a list of all your clients. Even
after the initial job is done, stay in
contact. Let people know you are still
out there.
5) Mute your survival and desperate feelings
for your work. Project a positive and
confident image for yourself.
6) This is your business. This is your career.
This is your life! Have it reflect who you
really are.
Was 2009 not that great for you? Well
2010 is right around the corner. Do
the seed work today, so your 2010 can
bloom beautifully.

great advise. They all are very useful to everyday life as well as business. Great idea for anyone new with pricing. I used to struggle, but now I say it with ease, I fell confident in my pricing and the quality I put into my work. Thanks for giving us something new to think about as we head towards another new year!

Ahhh, what great lessons, Shell. I especially resonate with the one about trusting what your gut tells you about flaky clients. I've learned this lesson several times myself!
Solid advice! Best of luck in 2010!
My goodness, what a great post! Such sound advice in this crappy economy. Even though things are spastic in this economy, opportunities continue to arise for those of us with creative talents.
Thanks for this very inspiring post.
