Swan of Dreamers is ten!

I remember writing my first blog post and
being nervous. Once I did it, I said I'll try
this blogging stuff. This is what I wrote
celebrating my first year and it still remains
true today. Ten years lata here I am. Thank
you to all my new followers.
Big hugs to my long time followers who
come to see what I am up to.
I especially love the comments from people
who use your reader my blog then come back
to see I am still here.

It is a busy day for me here. I had to honor ten
years with a tea party.

Yes, my old friend Miss Claudie stopped by...

And my new friend Ted.

I got a delicious chocolate cake with pretty
tea cups.

We listened to music and I made a wish.

Miss Claudie was a little sloppy.

I enjoyed my cake so much.

Soon the party had to wind down..

Miss Claudie and Ted both had fun.

So did I. Thank you for celebrating my ten
year blogversary with me.

Glow like the Sun

I am beautiful with
my caramel, cafe au lait, mocha, mahogany skin
I glow like the sun
I know who I am
My beauty is mine own
Just like your beauty is yours
We are all beautiful and unique
I don't slouch or hide
I shine like
me

Della laying it on us

Happy Friday, my friends. Before Della Reese was cast in her most popular role in Touched by Angel.I knew her mostly as a singer. My mom had a few of her albums.

Today, I decided to share this song that she recorded this in the mid 90's. It is wonderfully sassy and fun. So if you ever had an unwanted boyfriend or girlfriend who tried to come back, then this song is for you.

Enjoy.

Lena and Ricardo in Jamaica

About a year ago, I found this picture of Lena Horne and Ricardo Montalban
together. Then I googled to see they starred in a Broadway Musical together
called Jamaica in1957. It ran for 558 performances

Looking at these pictures of Lena and Ricardo, I am sure they were magic
together on stage.

The story is an island girl named Savannah (Lena Horne) wishes to leave her
home to live in New York City. Her plans are changed when a fisherman named Koli
(Ricardo Montalban) saved her brother's life. Meeting him changes everything...

This is a play I wished I had been able to see. As far as I know
no performances were ever filmed. There is an original soundtrack.
A kind soul uploaded it on you tube. This is my favorite song from
Jamaica. Here is Pity the Sunset sung by Lena Horne and Ricardo Montalban.
Enjoy.

A Black girl at King Arthur's Court

A lot of people love Keisha Knight Pulliam from The Cosby show and Polly, a musical remake of Pollyanna. My favorite thing Keisha has done so far is A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. Based on the book by Mark Twain.

10 year old Karen is forced to tag along with her older sister to a horse ranch after school. She disobeys her sister to get on a horse. Karen falls off and bumps her head. Finds herself magically transported to King Arthur's time.

She is befriended by Clarence.

She is knighted by King Arthur as Sir Boss.

Karen has a friendship with Lancelot.

And becomes a favorite of Gwenivere and her ladies in waiting.

Helps King Arthur realize his kingdom is in trouble. Karen inspires The Knights of the Round Table.

It is cute fun especially if you have kids. It is great to see a black girl doing something different on screen. Yes, all that black girl magic!

Whoopi Goldberg and Martin Lawrence both did film versions based A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. Their movies are A Knight in Camelot and Black Knight. Personally, I love Keisha's version. If you are interested, here it is. It is perfect for kids or your inner child.

Dream Thought #97 : Let your True Self Come Out

"If you are unhappy with anything... whatever is bringing you down, get rid of it,
Because you'll find that when you're free, your true creativity,
your true self comes out" - Tina Turner

On top of it being Friday.
It's also the start of Black History Month.
Are you ready? I am.
So is Tamara Dobson too. As always,
I like to share some of my favorite sheroes
and heroes of the African Diaspora.
Please stay tuned.
