All Hallow's Eve

The sun sets and the magic sparkles in the sky,
On this night called Halloween or All Hallow's Eve or Samhain,
We eat chocolate, candy and some try to scare themselves silly,
Or little munchkins dress up for fantastical fun.

The deeper message is now we walk into the darkest time of year
Remember all those who have gone before us family and friends,
A time of thinning Veil and divining messages from the universe.

However you mark this night. Stay safe and ride the extra magic of this night with the New Moon energy. Below is one of my favorite stories that I listened to as a girl on Halloween. Enjoy.

Romantic Vignette #17: When the Rain comes

She welcomed the rain
Like an old friend who stopped by to say hi
She grabbed her umbrella
Opened her door and walked out
to the Rain and her destiny....

Happy Birthday Monty

Today is the birthday of my one of my all time favorites: Montgomery Clift. How I do adore you, Monty! You can keep your Brando or Dean. I'll take Monty anyday!

Though I found Monty only a few years ago, I don't think any actor actually captured my attention as forcefully as him. As soon as he walked on the screen, I was captivated.

If you can fall in love with someone who died before you were born, well it happened to me.

I can go on and on about him. Go here and here to see more of my ramblings about Monty.

Happy Birthday, Monty. You are still greatly missed and adored.

October Full Moon

This October Full Moon is called the Hunter's Moon. With any Moon, you could name it whatever is appropriate for you. I like to call it the Veil opening Moon. As we near Halloween, the Veil between the world of the living and those that passed on are opening.

This full Moon glides in the fiery sign of Aries. My Moon is in Aries. If you know me in real life and ever seen me angry,which doesn't happen that often, my Aries comes out in full glory!

All my sun and Moon babies in Aries, this is our Full Moon. For everyone else, you can access the energy of this Full Moon in different ways

* Burn Red candles.

* Wear a Red clothing item.

* Tap into your warrior energy to give you an energy boost to deal with any loose ends in your life.

* Write an outrageous list of things you are to shy or afraid to do. Then pick one and do it!

* Eat something spicy or a new dish you always wanted to try.

* Dance, Dance, Dance!

* Start a new experience program or rededicate yourself to your exercise regiment.

Most importantly, whatever you do for the Full Moon make it authentic and fun for you. Happy Full Moon.

21 ways to soothe yourself

Food. I love Food. But when food becomes a coping method that's when things get tricky. I've been on a weight release journey since the year began. When I've come against a weight wall, most of the time I had to uncover what was the wall. Anger, fear, disappointment. Then when I did that, I had to let the feelings out. Not bury it in food. I had to find alternative ways to soothe myself. I found old favorites harking back from childhood to use. Here is my list of things to soothe yourself or get your mind off food. This is no particular order. Use and apply when needed.

* Declutter a part of your closet or drawers.

* Color in an adult coloring book.

* Write, draw, paint, color, glue, glitter in your journal.

* Listen to your favorite playlist.

* Binge watch a new show.

* Watch a classic movie or TV show.

* Write out how you wish your favorite day to be.

* Write poetry or a story.

* Dance!

* Reorganize your makeup and/ or toiletries.

* Go for a Nature Walk

* Go to Dollar Tree and buy up to ten dollars of fun stuff for
yourself.

* Knit, sew, and crochet.

* Call a friend to talk.

* Read a book.

* Create a vision board.

* Write down all your creative ideas and dreams.

* Research the luxury trip you like to take one day.

* Work in your garden or backyard.

* Buy yourself flowers.

* Paint your nails.

* Meditate by watching the sky.

Thrush Green

With the cooler weather and longer nights, now is a great time to cuddle up with a good book. I like to share one of my favorites called Thrush Green.

For years, I would go to my local library and see the same book by a Miss Read. It looked like a sweet book about life in a country village in England. The book was in the middle of the series. I dislike reading books from a series in the middle. Then the other day, I stumbled on Miss Read again. I looked it up in the library and they had the series starting from the beginning.

Miss Read is actually the pen name of Dora Saint who wrote a series of books on village life in the country. Where I live in The Bronx has a small village feel to it.

It is May 1st. The book chronicles the whole day in the life of the town. You get the meet all the lovely characters. Here is a sweet paragraph from Thrush Green.

"No one could guess how much hospital life oppressed the girl. She lay in bed on her veranda and gazed listlessly at the neat rose buds, each trim bush bearing a tidy label with its name, and, she craved for the sight of a spray of pale wild roses tossing in the fresh breeze on the open downs, for the splash rain on her face and the whistling of the wind through her hair" - Thrush Green by Miss Read

If you are looking for a cozy read that will warm your heart, read the Thrush Green series.
