Late Summer Blues

Maybe it's the Late Summer blues or that wonderful
pregnancy tiredness. I'm feeling the need to fill
up my creative well. I'll be taking a break and
return in early September. You will still see my
face pop up while visiting your blogs.

I'll leave you with some cool things to watch or read.

Backstairs at the White House (1979) starring Leslie Uggams and Olivia Cole based on Lillian Rogers Parks's memoir,
My Thirty Years at the White House.
The true story of a mother and daughter who worked as Maids in The White House for eight presidents. I remember seeing this as a kid and enjoying it. I saw it again a couple of months ago, and it still is a wonderful mini-series.

If you like Urban fantasy, I have a great series for you called The Connor Grey series by Mark Del Franco.
Starting from the first book Unshapely Things and
the 5th book I finished yesterday Uncertain Allies.
A former Druid and Invesigator, stripped of his
abilities has to solve a crime in his neck of
Boston called the "Weird" which is populated
with all kinds of magical creature. It's fantasy noir
at it's best.

Black Orchid Blues by Persia Walker. It's the second book in a series about Lanie Price, a Harlem Society Columnist, who while chronicling the brightest during The Harlem Reinssance finds herself solving crimes as well. I just started it and it's a wonderful book. I couldn't find the first book at the library, I may even buy it to read and keep.

Now, Voyager (1942) starring Bette Davis. I finally have my own copy of one of my favorites.
There is a great love story in it. What makes it a winner, shows
how a daughter repressed by her tyrannical mother, finally finds the strength to break free and live her own life. If you never seen a Bette Davis movie, this is the one you should see to get why she was and still is a star decades after her death.

Enjoy the rest of your August, see you back here
in September.

I Like

Happy Thursday. Sharing a few
things that I like:

1) Peace and Plenty: Finding Your Path To
Financial Security by Sarah Ban Breathnach.

My favorite idea: Having Pin Money.
"Keeping a Pin Money account helps you
you acknowledge the little things, the
affordable luxuries that you love."
-Sarah Ban Breathnach.

My Pin Money would be for:
Muffins at Panera cafe.
Crystals.
Beautiful earrings.
Scarves.
Delicious lip glosses and eye shadows.

2) Let's Bring Back: An Encyclopedia of Forgotten
-Yet-Delightful, Chic, Useful, Curious, and
Otherwise Commendable Things from Times Gone
By by Lesley M.M. Blume

My favorite: Parasols.

As much as I love the sun, I adore
having a beautiful White Parasol to
stroll in during Summer and Spring.

3) Scones

I finally found an easy recipe for
scones. I've made two batches so far.
Oh my, it is so good. Thinking about
it now, makes me hunrgy.

4) Armchair Thriller : Set 1

Sean and I picked this up at our
local library. It's is a British
Mystery series from the late 70's.
We've seen two of the four stories,
so far. Really Excellent. The one
with Ian McKellan is unforgettable.

What has recently caught your fancy?
I love to hear all.

Big Ripening Moon

Happy Full Moon everyone.

I have been busy. With slaying
some personal dragons and doing
family things.

This August Full Moon has many
names, but I like Big Ripening Moon.
My body feels like it's ripening
every day. Waiting for the beautiful
harvest of my baby.

Tonight is one of my favorite Full
Moons in the lunar year. It's the
Full Moon in Aquarius. Which is
my sun sign!! For all my Sun sign
and Moon signs in Aquarius. This
is our moon.

Since I became aware of the zodiac
signs connected with the Full Moons,
The Aquarius Moon always bring surprises, changes
and insight.

Everyone can still use
this beautiful Full Moon energy.
Aquarius energy is all about Freedom.
Whenever I get restless, tense or uninspired,
I know I need more freedom in my life.

Freedom doesn't mean you have to go
out and do something big like dye your hair,
quit your job, partner or move.

Freedom can be quiet things. Giving yourself
extra time to get ready in the morning, taking
long walks, trying a new recipe to cook/bake.

On this Full Moon in Aquarius, contemplate
what Freedom means to you. Then give yourself
permission to find, do, express or share your
personal sense of freedom.

As always, the energy of this Full Moon sticks
around for another day. Enjoy this Full Moon
Weekend. Remember, feel free!

Mondays

Happy Monday.

I just came back in from a walk.
Want to start back to walking three times
a week. I call it Jedi Mama training to keep
my mind and body clear. Though, I am always
running around doing errands. I have one
more big errand to do this week. Once that is done, I will
have a great load lifted off my shoulders.

Yesterday, was one of the first Free Sundays
I've truly had since February. I had no
obligations. Able to do what I want.
Sean and I went to Baby's r us to look
at strollers. So much fun!

Then I was able to watch one of my beloved
movies: The Pirate (1948) starring Judy Garland
and Gene Kelly directed by Vincente Minnelli

Oh, I love this movie. Judy wears red all through
out. My favorite red dress is the one
in this clip. If you love musicals, The Pirate
is a must see.

If you did anything fun this weekend, I love
to hear all about it.

Thursday

Happy Thursday. It's my favorite day
of the week

All day, they have been fixing the roof
of the apartment building I live in. I'm
right up above the roof. It has been banging
all day. Ugh. Finally...beautiful blissful
quiet. I can actually hear myself think.

I had a busy week so far. Completed
Jury Duty this week. Only had to serve
three days. Yipee. I'm in the process
of switching to a Birthing Center instead
of a hospital. I want to have as natural
birth as possible for baby and me.

I saw the first half of Ricki Lake's
documentary of the Business of Birth.
Seriously, I was crying through it and
couldn't finish. (I do want to finish
watching it.) If anyone is thinking
of becoming pregnant, I suggest watching it.
Going through my own pregnancy journey, I
see how mothers and fathers have to take
control of the way they want they child to
be born. If not, you may be on a road
of unnecessary inductions, epidurals
and c-sections.

Baby is moving around everyday now. So
amazing! Sean will be taking pictures
of me soon, I can post how I look now.
My baby belly is showing big time.

I found this trailer for a movie
called Trinity Goodheart. It's airing
on GMC network which I never even heard
of in August. It looks like a really sweet family movie.
I love that the lead (Erica Gluck) is young teen black
girl. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to see it.
I also love the fact, the hardest working Asian actor
in show business, James Hong, is in it too. You
may not know his name, he has been is so many
movies for decades.
