Believe in the Beauty of Yourself

As the last three months come for 2010.
October signals the beginnings of holidays
and festivals to last till the end of the year.
The hours of sunlight begin to wane as well.

I feel Autumn is a good time to strengthen
your inner self. Particularly your intuition.
Following mine has been an invaluable asset
to me. Of course, sometimes I can be hard
headed and ignore my intuition; or some lessons
need to be learned regardless.

These are small things you can do throughout
your day to connect to yourself and your life
in a deeper way.

1) Take at least ten minutes to zone out.
You can mediate, listen to music, cook or
even take a bath. Let your mind be free to
roam. You can listen to your thoughts, don't
attach to them. Let them float like clouds
in the sky. You'll be surprised at insights
that come when your mind is quiet.

2) Be aware of your feelings. If during the day,
you get certain feelings about people or projects,
write them down; File them in your mind to be looked
at again. Most of the times we get a feeling about
that crooked friend, betraying family member, shaky
deal way in advance. We ignore it as pure fancy
or our imagination. Don't ignore or bury your feelings.
Your feelings are indicators of deeper currents
going on around you.

3) Pay attention to your life. If you keep running
into what I call the same person or situation with
a different name. There is a problem you need to solve.
A question you need to answer for yourself. The answer
lies in paying attention to what you are doing, thinking
or reacting to.

4) Strengthen your spiritual side. Notice I didn't say
religion. We all need to believe we are not alone, we
are loved and protected. Find moments to pray, talk
to your Divinity or read uplifting books. Faith
is what keeps the glue together when darker moments
can engulf us.

5) Deepen your trust in yourself. You are remarkable.
You are made out of the same thing as the sun, stars
and moon. We forget that and put our trust in other
people. Trust whatever happens you will find a way
to flourish and grow. Trust that you are ingenious and
creative. Trust that all the solutions lie within. You
are the heroine/hero of your own story.

Wishing you all a wonderful Thursday.

Harvest Moon

The sun is setting here, the moon is rising.

It is the Harvest Moon. One of the most luminous moons
of the year. This moon is in the sign of the Aries.
So, if you have Aries as your sun sign or in as your moon sign,
like me, this is your moon.

Aries is actually the first sign of the zodiac. It brings
the promise of new beginnings and journeys to come. With
it coming the day after the Autumn Equinox, I feel gives
it an extra punch of power.

How can you use the energy of this Harvest Moon.

Aries is full of passion, energy and focus.
Ask yourself where do you need these qualities
in your life. Then with Aries action behind it,
do it!

If you want to do something more tame. Try this:

Wear a hot red, yellow, or orange dress/blouse.

Eat or cook spicy food.

Write down your bucket list.

Alter your route to work or to your favorite spot.
Go somewhere new.

When someone says something obnoxious, tell them
where to go with a smile. (If your normally telling
people where to go, then for once be quiet.)

Watch Now,Voyager starring Bette Davis.

Crank up the music and dance all your feelings
out.

Most importantly have fun and feel free under
this lovely Full Moon.

Take time to also to be thankful for all you have.
Be thankful for all the good that is coming your way.

Happy Harvest Full Moon.

Happy Autumn

Happy Autumn to you all.
Today is the first day of Autumn, also known as
the Autumn Equinox. There is an equal balance of
day and night today. After this day, the days will
grow shorter.

Don't let this beautiful day go to waste celebrate. Even
if it's a workday, you can find small ways to do so.

Make or eat anything with apples in it: apple pie,
apple fritters, apple cider, or one juicy apple.

Eat grapes or drink wine.

Make popcorn, cornbread or eat hot buttered corn.

Wear autumn colors in a piece of clothing or
accessories : red, orange, yellow, purple, green
brown.

When sunset falls, burn candles in autumn colors.

Pick leaves and press them in a book. Display them in
a frame.

Go outside to a local park and be with nature. Notice
how the land is changing around you.

Put up autumn decorations around your house.

Take time to mediate and focus on what you like
to accomplish this Autumn.

Make plans to go apple picking, hay riding or tour
local historical homes in your areas.

Buy sunflowers and pumpkins to decorate with. Or
bake pumpkin pie.

Read poetry about Autumn.

Look up stories about old Goddesses and Gods of Autumn
from various cultures.

There is so much to do on this day. Use your imagination
and there is no limit to the fun you can have.

Wishing you all a wonderful Autumn Equinox.

I will be back here tomorrow for the Harvest Moon.

Be Drunk

Be Drunk by Charles Baudelaire

You have to be always drunk.
That's all there is to it
it's the only way.
So as not to feel the horrible burden of time
that breaks your back
and bends you to the earth,
you have to be continually drunk.
But on what?
Wine, poetry or virtue, as you wish.
But be drunk.
And if sometimes,
on the steps of a palace
or the green grass of a ditch,
in the mournful solitude of your room,
you wake again,
drunkenness already diminishing or gone,
ask the wind,
the wave,
the star,
the bird,
the clock,
everything that is flying,
everything that is groaning,
everything that is rolling,
everything that is singing,
everything that is speaking. . .
ask what time it is
and wind,
wave,
star,
bird,
clock
will answer you:
"It is time to be drunk!
So as not to be the martyred slaves of time,
be drunk,
be continually drunk!
On wine, on poetry or on virtue as you wish."

Bright Road

This is one of the reasons I like TCM. I get to find gems
like this. Last week, I saw Bright Road (1953) starring
Dorothy Dandridge and Harry Belafonte.

It's spans a year in the life of a new teacher named Jane
played by Dorothy and her class of 4th graders. It's a really
sweet and heartwarming film. It's notable for a lot of reasons.
It's an almost all black cast with a positive and affirming
view of life; also, this is Harry Belafonte's film debut as
The Principal.

Bright Road comes a year before Carmen Jones which would
make Dorothy a star and earn her an Oscar nomination for
Best Actress; Bright Road also shows glimpses of the chemistry
that Dorothy and Harry would blaze in Carmen Jones.

If it comes on TCM again or you can get a copy of it,
please watch Bright Road. You will truly be delighted.

Here is the trailer. Enjoy.

Dream Thought #31

"Wish on everything. Pink cars are good, especially old ones.
And stars of course, first stars and shooting stars.
Planes will do if they are the first light in the sky
and look like stars. Wish in tunnels, holding your breath
and lifting your feet off the ground. Birthday candles.
Baby teeth." - Witch Baby by Francesca Lia Block

Happy September

Happy September.

A beautiful and great month to set sails
on an ocean of dreams and possibilities.

No dream is too big or small.
Some dreams are to open up your own business
and others to paint that neglected small dresser
that lies unused in a closet.

The only requirement for a dream is that
it makes you happy.

I have three current dreams I'm working
on. Two are private for me right now.
When they come to fruition,
I can share it with the world.

The third one is my journey to reshape
my body and my eating habits. On my wall,
I have an inspiration dress. It's
what I call my Marilyn Dress. It's white, a
size smaller than me and beautiful.

(I wish my camera had batteries so I can
post a picture of it.)

Once I fit the dress. Then I'll celebrate
and continue to the next size I want to
get to. Like all great dreams, it takes
time. I say do the work now, reap the rewards
later.

I'm wishing all of your a great September.
Make it a month you spend working, playing
and planning your dreams.

Finally, to say thank you to all of my
readers here. I have reached 100 followers.
For me, that is a great milestone. Thank
you one and all who leave comments and those
who are content to just read my posts.

I send much love to all of you.

Now go out there and spend a little time
on your dreams!
