Dream Thought #22

"Don't ask yourself what the world needs -
ask yourself what makes you come alive,
and then go do it. Because what the world
needs is people who have come alive."

Happy Birthday, Jimi

Jimi Hendrix found me when I needed help the most.
I was opening up as an actor and beginning
to realize that my father and I would never be close.
He had walls so thick that not even a daughter's love
could melt them.

It hurt. Deeply. In ways that would take me years to
express.(If you have a distant parent in your life,
well, you can understand.) Jimi became for me a
surrogate father. Jimi's music reaffirmed to me what
a father would have said to me. You are great exactly
as you are. Be you. Express all of you. Don't be
afraid. Never let anyone put you in a box.

I wish I could have met him in person, to tell him
how much he helped me. Jimi passed away at 27 when
I was just a baby.

Thank you for the music, Jimi. Thank you for being
my wild, freedom loving, creative, rock-n-roll father.

You Deserve The Best

On Thursday, I went to a wonderful metaphysical
class at the Alignment center in Manhattan
being taught by a new friend.
He is full of magic and wisdom. I adore him.

The class was on prosperity. He gave us all
great affirmations,prayers, etc. What struck
me at a deep level is about feeling
you deserve the best. If you feel like you
don't deserve the best, you will block yourself
from your own good.

Well, yesterday I was supposed to go out with
a friend. He has a bad habit of being late,
forgetting appointments and doublebooking his
time. Usually, I let it go because I love
him dearly.

This time, I got really angry.
I told him this crap has got to stop among
other things.It wasn't just him, I thought
about two or three other friends
in my life who don't call and continually
cancel hanging out with me

Enough is Enough! You know why?
Because I deserve the best in all areas of
my life. If I'm having people treat me like
this, it is dragging me down. Blocking all
wonderful good which is trying to come in.
We teach people how to treat us. I know
I deserve the best. I see with my friends
I have gotten lax with how I'm being treated.
That is all going to change.

Prosperity includes good people in your life who
honor who you are. So if things aren't flowing for you,
look around at your close circle. Really look at how
people treat you.

Because You Deserve The Best in all areas of you life!

Monologue Love

I had a blast at The Simple Thing Monday party
hosted by Christina. I want to thank everyone for
coming over and leaving all these wonderful comments.

I had a whole another post in my mind. I got inspired
by my recent work of finding new monologues.
As some of you know, I now teach acting privately.
I have been searching for new monologues to use for
teaching.

It has been fun. I get monologues from everywhere:
film, tv, books, poems. The more obscure, the better.

I found a slew of great monologues from the Georgia
O' Keefe movie starring Joan Allen and Jeremy Irons.
And today, I went back to a monologue I had thought
of before and decided to add it my list.
Ain't I Woman
speech from Sojourner Truth.

The best advice about monologues I can give is
make sure it resonates with who you are. And
it should start off strong and be in the active
voice. Especially when auditioning, you have only
a minute or two to wow them. I say come in strong
and end it with them wanting more.

I went on Youtube and found Alfre Woodward, Kerry
Washington, Alice Walker and Cicely Tyson all
doing the speech.

I enjoyed them all. I wanted to share Cicely
performing this.

Enjoy.

The Icon and The Hunk

I woke up and did my daily go to IMDB to look at birthdays.
Here is two of my faves: Whoopi Goldberg and Gerard
Butler celebrating 54 and 40 respectively.

When I was a teen in the 80's, Whoopi was the biggest
influence on me in my dreams as an actor. She lit the
candle of doing my one woman show. (Which I swear I
will do one day.) Whoopi with her natural hair, raspy
new york voice, unique name and her electric talent
couldn't be denied. She took roles she liked;
when the powers that be tried to put her in a box,
she let people know with a vengenace she wouldn't be
boxed in because of her race and her look! Always
original and unique. Happy Birthday, Whoopi.
At 54, you are still making waves. I hope to
one day join you in the exclusive club of African
American Oscar Winners. I also want to
see you back on the big screen, too.

I love gerry

I can go on and on about Gerard Butler. I'll try
to keep this short.I went to see "300" and came
out enchanted with Gerard. I had to know more about
him. I did. It is three years later, I'm still quite
devoted to him. There is something about him which
draws me in whenever I see him on the screen and
on talk shows. Beyond his looks,he seems down to
earth. If I went up to say hello and he had time,
we sit and talk about life and acting. That's makes
me love him even more. We also share being born
in the same year, too!

Happy Birthday Whoopi and Gerry. Many more birthdays to come.

Dreamthought #21

"You must get rid of the thought of competition. You are to create, not to
compete for what is already created.

You do not have to take anything away from anyone.

You do not have to drive sharp bargains.

You do not have to cheat or to take advantage. You do not need to let anyone
work for you for less than she/he earns.

You do not have to covet the property of others or to look at it with wishful
eyes.

No one has anything of which you cannot have the like, and that without
taking what she/he has away from her/him.

You are to become a creator, not a competitor. You are going to
get what you want, but in such a way that when you get it every
other person whom you affect will have more than she/he has now."

In The Moment

Happy Thursday!

I'm in a light hearted mood today. I don't feel like thinking about goals, lists, projects I should be working on..sounds like blah blah to me. I feel being in the moment and flowing with whatever I attract my way.

Be joy hearted like this panda here:

Get off the achievement train and just hang out. Eat cupcakes and read a good book.

When someone asks where do I see myself five years from now? Right now, I
say I just want to enjoy this next five minutes. Look up at the sky and
relax my mind for a while.

Hey, it could be me and just the kind of mood I'm in. That's fine. Sometimes
I have to marinate and ride the waves.

Here is something to make you all smile. My favorite cartoon monster
Gossamer gets punk'd by Bugs Bunny.

November and The Snow Moon

Happy November. Truthfully, I'm still riding the wave of magical Halloween goodness. Here is another Ricard Scarry scan for this new month.

Novemberrscarry

Tonight is The Full Moon in Taurus. This Moon has many names but I like the Snow Moon the best.

It is a night to celebrate all those earthly delights under the sign of Taurus:
*delicious food
*our beautiful bodies
*the energy of the money
*our natural creative abilities

Tonight take a few moments to look up at the sky to Lady Luna. Don't be
surprised if she winks back at you.

Have a beautiful Moon evening.
