Happy Halloween

Come with me everyone for some Halloween fun. My twin (she is one of my bests and we have been friends since 9th grade) is celebrating her birthday today. Happy Birthday, Les!! The Halloween baby gave me some of her special Halloween magic today. Now, here comes my guest for the evening.

Blade wanted to stop by but he needs to rest up for tonight. Halloween is a busy time for him. So he sent his fellow hunter friend, Clay to share in my Halloween fun for all of you.

Clay is going to be my personal treat, er, I mean bodyguard tonight. Wait I hear knocking someone else knocking at the door.

It's The Phantom! What was that Phantom? Oh, you heard I was going to show a movie I edited using Windows Movie Maker and wanted to see it. Wow. You are so sweet for coming here.

(As Clay and The Phantom engage in a bit of staring contest). I am now going to share my first ever video. It is less than two minutes. It is a bit rough. I pieced together a favorite scene from Beauty and The Beast. This episode is called Masques and from the first season of the show. It is about Vincent. No Catherine this time around.

Gentlemen! Please take your seats. There is enough of me to go around. Now, Clay you sit on my right and Phantom over here are my left. Lights, Camera, Action. Yes, My Phantom you can play some music after.

Happy Halloween everyone!

DreamThought #4

Perhaps all the dragons of our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us once beautiful and brave. Everything terrible is in its deepest being, something helpless that wants help from us - Rainer Maria Rilke

Music of The Night

It is a deliciously rainy day in New York. I so love rainy days!! I'm gazing out at the window snuggled in my bedroom while I burn some wonderful black star incense. Mabel is cat napping.

I thought of a wonderful dreamy Halloween movie. At first you wouldn't think of this as Halloween movie. I do. You have a gothic flavored romance, a haunted opera house and a disfigured phantom lurking around. Throw in wonderful music and my Scottish honey, Gerard Butler. You have The Phantom of The Opera!!

Here is one of my favorite scenes. I don't own the movie. It is on my list of Christmas goodies I hope Santa will be giving me. I know some people had mixed feelings about GB's singing. Gerry can sing to me any day!!!

This is a long clip. Get comfortable; Pour yourself a glass of sparkling apple cider or wine. Enjoy.

In the air

Wanted to thank everyone for the lovely comments to my pictures. I enjoyed sharing me in all my wabi sabi glory. The news of JH's nephew, Julian King, found dead made me so sad. I was hoping for the little boy to be found alive. Makes me remember how precious life is; We should love the people we share our lives with as much as we can.

As I continue my job search, I doing my best to fill my days with pockets of sunshine. Today, I went to a local Botanica with Anakin, I stocked up some cool supplies for myself. Two boxes of lovely Nag Champa, two bottles of rose water and a bundle of Sage. I'll be doing some burning and cleansing in the apartment. Get some of the negative energy out of here.

Hey, is anyone watching Heroes? I have been a faithful watcher, but I'm starting to lose my love for it. Is it all the flipping of certain heroes into villians or vice versa? Not sure.

I've also been thinking about Halloween. It's only four days away. I love Halloween in all it's many sides. I feel there is a magical and dreamy side to Halloween that is forgotten with all the blood, gore, and scares. If you follow some of the ancient ideas of the holiday we now call Halloween, that around this time the walls between the worlds of "reality" and "fantasy" are bleeding into each other. Anything can happen. I can feel it in the air. Can you?

Happy Sunday

Wabi Sabi everyone. Sunset is almost done here in the Big Apple. I know people get S.A.D. around this time. I feel for those who suffer from that. Next week will be daylight savings time. I love when it gets dark earlier. Makes the sunlight so much more precious to me. The longer nights have a magical feel to them. I've had a great weekend so far had a wonderful Tarot gig last night and tomorrow I'm going to a bit of shopping. I've been playing around with my windows movie maker and photoimpressions 4. I'm working on a Halloween video around one of my favorite t.v. shows on the 31st. Something dreamy for all of you. It's going to be my first video. I'm psyched.

I want to send healing thoughts and prayers to Jennifer Hudson. She is part of my Oscar winner collage on the left side of my screen. Her mom and brother were killed on Friday. Her nephew has been kidnapped. Death is never easy. Especially when loves ones are taken in violence. I pray her nephew is found unharmed and returned back safely to his mom.

Wabi Sabi

I've been in a I-don't-care-mode since Tuesday. Mostly, the only things I care about is blogging and walking. Which would be cool except I have a slew of other things I have to attend to: job hunting, new pictures, my Dark Knight, etc. The energy is not there. I'm burnt out over all the wacky drama in my life. As Qui-Gon says Feel, don't think. I don't like to fight how I feel, I rather go with the feeling until it flows out. I'm in wabi sabi mode.

It is a Japanese term that in my understanding is accepting the beauty of imperfections. Embracing all of it: the good, the bad, the ugly, the sad, the scary, the ridiculous, the unbelievable. I'm am now in Wabi sabi mode. Embrace all the wonderful imperfections of my life as it now. Let things in my life just be.

Anakin lent me his camera. Here I am in all my Wabi Sabi glory. This is from yesterday(the green shirt) and today(the blue shirt): with just a hint of lip gloss, no fuss, no lights. Just me. Just Shell. Wabi Sabi everyone. Have a wonderful Friday.

Your focus is your reality

I haven't done a Star Wars post in a while. Here is some insightful words from Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn (potrayed by the wonderful Liam Neeson.) He is my favorite in Phantom Menace. If you watch the movies in order from Phantom Menace to Return of The Jedi, you see how important Qui-Gon's influence played out not only on Anakin and Obi-Wan, also Luke as well. Qui-Gon was a Maverick in the truest sense of the world! This quote is from a scene between Qui-Gon and Anakin. It is on my wall of inspiration in my bedroom.

"Concentrate on the moment. Feel, don't think. Trust your instincts. Remember, Your focus is your reality."

Fun for Tuesday

Your fairy is called Columbine Icewand
She is a bone chilling bringer of justice for the vulnerable.
She lives in mushroom fields and quiet meadows.
She is only seen when the seer holds a four-leafed clover.
She wears lilac and purple like columbine flowers. She has icy blue butterfly wings.

I was thinking I get a sweet faerie name like Apple Peaceblossom. My faerie names sound like a Faerie gun for hire. Sweet but she will slay you. Share me with what your Faerie name is. Yes, I prefer the spelling Faerie instead of Fairy. Just a personal preference.

Halloween Party

Many years ago in a faraway land called The Bronx, there lived a little girl named Michelle. Her mom affectionately called her Shell.

When Shell was walking to school on a cool autumn day, She heard a mournful cry. She looked around and saw no one. Shell heard the same sound again; Then gazed down at the grass and noticed a faerie.Shell bent down. There a pretty faerie had one of her wings caught in a fallen tree branch.Shell carefully released the faeries’ wing. The school bell rang.
“I’m Kira. I like to repay you for helping me. I am having a Halloween party and I like to invite you." said the pretty faerie.
"I'm Shell. I must go now before I'm late for school. I love to go to your party". Though Shell was a grown girl of eight years old she still believed in Faeries, Santa Claus and all those things of childish delights.

The week before Halloween, Shell found a bottle of faerie dust on her bed that had miraculously appeared one morning. A small note attached to it read: .Miss Shell is invited to the Halloween Party of Kira at noon. Blow a bit of faerie dust on you then you'll be magically brought to the party.

So it was on the first Halloween party that Shell went to be rewarded for her kindness from Kira. You have now guessed I am the same Shell now all grown up. Every year right before Halloween, I always get my bottle of faerie dust on my bed. Faerie magic is quite remarkable! Though I am an adult, my friends have remained unchanged. I still go dressed in my favorite costume of a Gypsy. Today is our Halloween Party. So come with me now.

I walk past three blocks of buildings. I ramble on the path near the highway. Till I see Pelham Bay Park. Once I walk past the small grove of trees, I make a left turn at the old wagon still there.

I walk till I hear the music. Can you hear it? It is so beautiful. Every year it changes. This year I hear flutes, guitars and tambourines harmoniously blended. Oh,look there is Miss Kitty. She is quite proper and will scold me for not wearing my gloves. I tell her all the time gypsies rarely use white gloves. She never listens to me.
“Hi Miss Kitty!!”

“Miss Shell. They are all waiting for you. You have forgotten your gloves again. Naughty girl.”
‘I’m sorry Miss Kitty, I’ll remember next time.”
“Yes, Yes, well come along lazy-bones.”

When I come to the party I can hear the animals talk. Because well we do talk, as Miss Kitty says, it’s humans who can’t hear us properly.

“Hi Shell. We are bringing Kira's special cake so she can make a wish on ”Chimed Thomas and Jane in unison.

I wave to Thomas and Jane, the country mice and Miss Pink, a faerie watch dog, as they quickly passed me. Miss Jane is an expert cake maker. She makes all the cakes for the local faeries. Miss Pink , whose real name is Gertrude, prefers to be called Miss Pink for her love of the color. Her job is to protect the local faeries from any troublesome outsiders.

“Wait, Wait, I’m coming. I just need to put on my hat to make sure it doesn’t fly away.”

I hear the sweet voice of Miss RoseSkyLilac. She is one of the faeries that delights in making babies laugh and smile when they become sad. She is always arrives just in the nick of time.

I make it to the party as Kira is about to make a wish on Her Happy Birthday Halloween Cake. Though Faeries don’t need wishes as much as we do, she still makes a wish. I suspect the wish is for me. I always have a week or two of extraordinary good luck after the party. Miss Kitty, Thomas, Jane, RoseSkyLilac and I all surround Kira. She looks so beautiful in her new silver dress.

Kira’s makes her wish on her cake. Since you are my friends as well, there is enough food for all. Besides our Happy Birthday Halloween Cake, there are many delicious treats for you to eat. Please help yourself to as much as you like.

Once our bellies are full, we are going to tell ghost stories. It is Miss Kitty who tells the best stories. She has the special gift ,that all cats share, the vision to see ghosts clearly. So cats always have the best tales to share she always boasts.

I hope you’ll stay for the ghost stories. I know you have so many other delightful Halloween parties to go. So I won’t keep you. Thank you for coming by and sharing this day with me and my friends.

I love Emerson Cod

Who is my favorite pie eating, popup book making, quick witted and loves to Knit Private eye? It's Emerson Cod from my beloved show:Pushing Daisies. Chi McBride plays Emerson in all his funny and sarcastic glory. As much as I love Ned, Chuck, Olive. My heart belongs to Emerson. If you haven't see the show, check it out. It's a great blend of comedy, whimsy and sweetness.

Chi is a great character actor who has been around for a while. I'm glad to see him in a wonderful role. I'm hoping Emerson can get some love this season with a special guest star for him! I have my fingers crossed. If you feel in the mood for some more Chi, check out the movie Let's Go to Prison. It's a funny movie and Chi is hilarious in it.

Here's some funny clips of Chi as Emerson Cod. Enjoy.

Fly

Ever get to the point when you get tired of being tired! Your mad as hell and your not going to take it anymore? You have been pushed to the wall but instead of curling up in a ball, you get back up and decide to fight back. Well I'm feeling exactly like that! I can feel the energy I have spent on blocked paths beginning to bubble up. Yearning to be used in other creative ways. So I'm ready to shake some things up,do the unexpected and fly as far as I can. Where is that all going to lead me? I don't know. I'm ready for the adventure.

Full Moon

Happy Full Moon everyone. I had a full day, so I'm finally just writing. I got up last night around 3:30am and sat to watch the moon. It was so beautiful; the moonlight spilling into my bedroom. Tonight should be another clear night in the sky. So I'll be up again basking in the glow.

I love writing. It is my second love right after acting. Here are two of my moon inspired poems. Enjoy.

Untitled#1
Moonlight showers our bodies
sheets pushed aside
I can trace the stars
on your back

Untitled#2
Moonlight caresses me
As I bathe in the
Tranquil sea

Far From Heaven

I just saw the movie last night. I had missed it when it came out in 2002. If you haven't seen Far From Heaven please watch it. Before I even get into the acting and the story. The look of the film is so beautiful with all the colors and clothes. The art director and cinematography is truly breathtaking.

I don't want to give the story away. I can tell you this much Julianne Moore is Cathy a perfect coiffed poised Housewife in the late 50's. She is married to her handsome successful sales exec hushand (Dennis Quaid.) She has a storybook life. Events begin to unravel her life. She finds herself in an unexpected friendship with her gardener Raymond(Dennis Haysbert.)

That's all I'm telling you. Go and watch it. Let me know what you think. It is a bittersweet story. It is a throwback to the movies from the 50's. What surprised me the most is the director, Todd Haynes, also directed the wonderfully vibrant Velvet Goldmine. The acting in this is wonderful. Julianne Moore, Dennis Quaid and Dennis Haysbert are superb. I have a crush on Dennis Haysbert. So I was sighing whenever he came on screen.

Here is a trailer for the film.

Weekend

Yesterday, I went to meet my friend, The Lady R. for lunch. It was wonderful to see her. Lady R is full of creativity and ideas. We both inspired each other during our talk. Which is what good friends really do for each other. Then she graciously treated me to the movies after work!!

We saw Quarantine. Vampire movies I like. Horror movies with zombies just freak me out. This one certainly did. Then we hopped over ,joined with Lady R's husband, to watch Rocknrolla with my oh so dreamy Gerard Butler. I love the movie. Guy Ritchie, the director, all his gangster movies are full of fun and craziness. This one was no exception. I got home a bit after midnight. The feeling of relaxation and fun is still with me this morning.

On Sunday, I'm going to be at Castle Clinton in Battery Park for a Renaissance Faire Benefit for a new all woman's classical theater company. I'm one of the and I quote" fiery Gyspy fortune tellers." So if you are in the area, come on down and say hello to me. You can't miss me I will be the only sistah dressed in gyspy-like regalia. It should be a fun day.

Today, I'm going to do a few errands, relax and catch up with blog surfing. I hope you all are having a fun weekend so far.

Wings like Eagles

I had a really long night. Lately, I have been coming up against a brick wall in many incarnations again and again. I have written about this for a while. If I go right, the wall comes up left. I have done my best to flow, get around, chip away at the wall. This morning after sitting down next to my altar and doing my tarot and oracle card for the day, there is only one solution left. I need to let go.

Now, if this was a miniseries, a friend would call saying that their chateau in the countryside of France needs housesitting until the year's end. I go there. Get inspired and fall in love with the only handsome French brotha in town. He fall madly in love with me ...okay, I'm losing focus here. Let me get to my current reality.

The point is sometimes you have to walk away. I decided to take a hiatus from acting for a month. Maybe even till Thanksgiving. I'm letting go of all the things, people and situations that are stagnating for me. Laying down my burdens.

My beliefs in God are not traditional at all. I feel our Cosmic Birther of the Universe speaks to us in different ways. I do my best to listen. I have one piece of scripture that I really feel. This is from the book of Isaiah.

"But they who wait for The Lord
shall renew their strength
they shall mount up with wings like eagles
they shall run and not be weary
they shall walk and not faint"

I'm letting go and renewing my strength. There has to be a balance in all things. I do my best to look on the sunny side of life. Maintaining a positive and focused life requires energy and strength. The truth it's so easy to go negative and apathetic. I need to rest and replenish.

Despite my personal drama,it's still Friday!! I have a fun video to show. This is from one of my new favorite movies: Marie Antionette. The movie got slammed by critics and audiences stayed away. I love the way Sofia Coppola, the director, gives the movie a documentary feel to it. The first hour is slow, once you get past that the movie comes into it's own.

The song says it all. Have a wonderful Friday everyone.

What if?

When I was a kid, I read comic books. My male cousins got me into it. I use to read X-Men, Star Wars, Micronauts, Dazzler, Avengers. One of my favorite Marvel specials were the What if's series they would publish. Like What if Spiderman and Wolverine traded powers. Just an example. Knowing Marvel comic universe they might have already done this. I still read Comic Books or as they are called now Graphic Novels from time to time.

So I now pose a few What if questions for you. There is no right or wrong answer. Just something to make you think. Most of the time we go through life on warp speed and don't take time to think about our lives.

What if you got an annual tax free paycheck of 250 thousand dollars what would you do?

What if you can tell off the most annoying person in your world without any guilt?

What if you can travel back in time to a younger version of you? What would you tell yourself without revealing too much?

What if you married that other guy or other woman how would your life be different?

What if you could meet any person in time who would it be?

What if you actually did that secret dream that no one else knows about it?

What if you you felt no fear what would you do today?

Dream Thought #3

"Imagine that you are going fishing in the Divine Sea of Possibility. Visualize your consciousness as an energetic question mark that forms a fishing hook, and cast it into the waters. Remain focused and patient, and in time, your meditative tool will draw your desired experience to you"- Sonia Choquette

Toshi!!!

One of my best friends who I call My Twin (because we favor each other lot) and her daughter love an Japanese singer/actor called Gackt. He's huge in Asia. Not sure how known he is here unless your into Asian pop music like they are. He is a cutie and has a nice voice.

About a month ago, I was listening to the one of the music channels I have on cable. This song came on. I was really feeling it. I was like who is this? So I looked at the artist. I was like he looks Asian. So I wrote his name down. And googled him, ah the joys of the internet. Then I found him.

His name is Toshi Kubuto. He's Japanese singer. As a teen he fell in love with R&B music. He started out singing regular J-pop songs then switched to his real love: R&B. Last Friday, My Twin, Jazz and I went out. We went to a Korean music for Jazz to get some more music. My Twin spotted a double CD of Toshi for me. It was the right price of 8.00 dollars. I was so happy. Some of the songs are in Japanese. I totally get what he's saying by his inflections and the music. So Toshi is my new passion. It's a bit hard to find recent info on him. I'm so hoping I find when he comes to New York, so I can hear him live.

Listening to Toshi reminds that music can transcend race, culture and even language. Here is his song "Nothing but your love". Big hug to My Twin and her daughter, Jazz when they read this.

Happy Birthday Clive

Yesterday was a blast for me with everyone coming from Blog Around The World. I'm still hyped from all the excitement. I originally had a different post in mind. Then I went on imdb and saw one it is one of my favorites birthday. So I had to change posts for today. It's Clive "I'm smoking hot" Owen's birthday. He's 44. If you have no idea who Clive Owen is, I just have to shake my head at you for that. He's a Brit and full of passionate intensity that captures me everytime he's on screen. He was on the short list to be the next James Bond after Pierce. He would of rocked the part just as much as Daniel Craig has.

Here is a list of some his films I enjoyed.

Shoot Em Up (2007)
Children of Men (2006)
Inside Men (2006)
Derailed (2005)
Sin City (2005)
King Arthur (2004)

I wish Clive much love and kisses on his birthday. This video of his is oozing with sexiness and other good stuff. I say watch this alone with a glass of wine or sparkling apple cider. Enjoy.

Live from New York

Live from New York!! Welcome to all my BATW family. Take a seat on the Swanofdreamers express train. I have a fun pass for you that will take you all over the city. I’m a native New Yorker. Born in Manhattan and raised in The Bronx. I’m living my dream as an actress. Am I famous yet? No, but I’m working on it. I kept thinking about how can I cover New York? It’s a big city and state. So I decided on picking two must see places and a hidden gem.

Must sees: Broadway and Chinatown.

It’s Broadway, baby!! The lights, the music, the stage: there is nothing like it in the world. As an actor it is one of my favorite places in the city. I went to my first play when I was six to see The Wiz. I have seen I guess up to fifty productions. My next must see is to see Daniel Radcliffe in Equus. (of course, you know him as Harry Potter.) So if you come to New York, you must see a show!! There are no excuses here. Musical or Drama, it doesn’t matter. Nothing is as electrifying as a Broadway show. You can go to TKTS right in Times Square to get tickets half-off for all shows on the day off.

Chinatown.

Whenever I go there, I’m stepping in another world. Small streets packed with vendors selling seafood, fruits, bags, scarves, t-shirts, jewelry. It also the place where you can find knockoffs on all your favorite designer things!! When you go, walk away from the crowds and venture deep into Chinatown. You’ll find all kinds of delights on every corner. You’ll be able to find something for yourself and your whole family.

Hidden Gem: Conservatory Garden on 105 and 5th ave.

I stumbled on to this beautiful garden many years ago. It is a nod to European gardens of the past. When you walk in there is a beautiful wide vista of green with a lovely water fountain. You can go to the left for the French Garden or the right to The English Garden. My favorite part of the garden is the French Garden with it beautiful fountain of dancing maidens in the middle. It is a wonderful destination for weddings and pictures. It is an oasis from the bustling of the big city. Few people know about it which makes it even better.

Now, we are going to hop on the 6 train to go to my neck of the woods: The Bronx. Now why is The Bronx called The Bronx and not Bronx. Well the story goes the first European Settler was named Jonas Bronck, a Swedish sea captain. So when people went to visit, they said I’m goings to see The Broncks. Over the time the land he brought became known as The Bronx.

I live in Co-op City. (The brown building is where I live right off The Hutchinson River.)

It is called the world’s largest housing development in the world. The picture above only shows a small part of Co-op City. It was specifically designed for middle class families. I grew up here and eventually moved into my own apartment. It is literally a small city. You don’t really have to leave Co-op if you don’t want to. We have schools, a mall, movie theatre, parks. It is small town living in a big city. Actually a lot of my childhood friends and family still live here. My mom is about a stone’s throw away from me.

Must sees: The New York Botanical Garden and City Island.

The New York Botanical Garden. It is my haven from the world. Our Gardens are world renowned. It is a place of wondrous place filled with beauty for your all senses. From the lovely rose garden to the native forest to the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory to the rock gardens. The Botanical gardens is for anyone who loves nature in all her glory. It is free on Wednesdays and Saturdays before noon!!

City Island. It is called the waterway of The Bronx. It is right next to my Co-op City. It is like a nautical sea village. Seafood restaurants, antique shops, clothing and coffeshops all sit on the main street. My favorite place it all the end of City Island called Sammy’s. You can get all kind of seafood on the cheap and take a seat outside to look at the beautiful river outside and nearby Long island.

Hidden Gem: Bartow-Pell Mansion.

Yes, we have a mansion in The Bronx! Actually is a Greek revival building that was built in the 19th century. It is preserved to the way the last family of the Bartow family when they left in the 1840’s. It is a historical landmark. I’ve gone there to take the tour and to go to various events given at the Mansion. You walk in and you step into another time. The tour guide is dressed in the authentic time of the period. The Bartow-Pell Mansion is always having lovely education events that show the hidden history of The Bronx.

I hope I was able to give all a bit of flava of my city. So if you’re ever coming to New York and need some places to go to or any info, just give me a holla. I would be happy to share with you any info. Thank you for all stopping by and sharing your time with me. Hope you all come back soon.

Whoopi on a Wednesday

I usually put a cool or funny clip on Friday. Hey, variety is the spice of life. So I have a video from one of my favorite movies: Jumpin' Jack Flash (1986) starring Whoopi Goldberg. When I meet Whoopi, I have to tell her how much I adore the movie. It shows Whoopi at her funniest to me. So enjoy. Tomorrow is going to a big day for me, I am going to be a featured blogger for Blogs around The World. If you don't know what that is, just check out the icon on the right side. Thanks to all of you for your great juicy positive energy. All of your comments give me extra fuel to keep focused. A dream takes more than yourself to grow; you need the company of others. Now watch some Whoopi on a Wednesday.

Happy Birthday David

"Having all that - the fame and adulation and the women and all that stuff they talk about - doesn't make you happy. You have to ...
